Dr. Riksh Syamananda, Deputy Managing Director of the Doi Tung Development Project, Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, presided over the Certificate Awarding Ceremony for 9 graduates of the GMS Medical Training Center, Session 3/2552 from Lao Gai Province, Vietnam, on 25 December 2009 at the Hall of Inspiration Conference Room, at the Doi Tung Development Project. This project is a collaboration between the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, the Japan International Friendship and Welfare Foundation (JIFF, and the Thai Ministry of Health, in order to train and provide knowledge to healthcare personnel of the Greater Mekhong Sub-Region countries of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar Vietnam and Cambodia. The objective is to promote and develop medical service skills in hospital personnel, for the prevention and control of major problematic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. There are five different courses, for doctors, dentists, nurses and X-ray and Laboratory technicians. Each course is for three months at the training center at Mae Sai Hospital, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. The entire project is for three years, and this 3/2552 session is the 11th under the project. In total, 98 participants have undergone training in the GMS MTC. Certificate awarding ceremony was attended by representatives from JIFF, the Deputy Governor of Chiang Rai Province, representatives of the Ministry of Health in Chiang Rai Province, doctors, nurses, and officials from the Mae Fah Luang Foundation.
