The Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage arranged events to commemorate the 109th Birth Anniversary of H.R.H. Srinagarindra the Princess Mother on Sunday, 18 October 2009, at the Doi Tung Royal Villa in Chiang Rai Province
On the occasion of Her Royal Highness the late Princess Mother?s birthday on 21 October 2009, the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, in cooperation with the Petanque Federation of Thailand under the Patronage of the HRH the Princess Mother, the National Jogging Association of Thailand, the Thai Cycling Association under Royal Patronage, and the Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand arranged events on Sunday, 18 October 2009 to commemorate Her Royal Highness? 109th Birth Anniversary. These events were held from 06.00 to 12.00, at the Doi Tung Royal Villa in Chiang Rai Province. There were four sports categories: 1. Petanque - Male and Female competitions. The winners were: - Winner in the Male category, receiving the H.R.H. the Princess Mother cup was the Phitsanuloke team, by a score of 13:10 - Winner of the Female category, receiving the H.R.H. the Princess Mother cup was the Mahasarakham team, by a score of 13:8 2. The Mini Marathon races of 13.5 kilometers and Half Marathon of 21 kilometers. These had 5,213 contestants, with the following winners: - Winner of Male Mini Marathon of 13.5 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. the Princess Mother cup was Mr. Jaran Jupoh, in a time of 56 minutes, from the Bangkok Metropolitan Running Team. - Winner of Female Mini Marathon of 13.5 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana cup was Ms. Chutimol Rithidej, in a time of 1 hour 12 minutes, from the Mickey Records Team. - Winner of Male Half Marathon of 21 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Mr. Patarapol Noimoh, in a time of 1 hour 28 minutes, from the Rajabhat Chiang Rai University Team. - Winner of Female Half Marathon of 21 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Ms. Apasara Prasarthinpimai, in a time of 1 hour 47 minutes, from the Mickey Running Team. 3. There were two categories of Cycling races: Mountain Bikes with 1,500 contestants and Road Bikes with 58 contestants, with the following winners: - Overall winner of Male Mountain Bike Competition of 23 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Mr. Pokkrong Taofongkham, with a time of 48.52 minutes, from the Mae Sai Team. - Winner of Female Mountain Bike Competition of 18 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Ms. Chitpisuti Kitimool, with a time of 47.22 minutes, from the Sua Chaiprakarn Chiang Mai Team. - Winner of Male Road Bike Competition of 58 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Sgt. Panupan Chongrungruengkij, with a time of 1 hour 31 minutes, from the Royal Air Force Club Team. - Winner of Female Road Bike Competition of 58 kilometers, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Ms. Chariya Chumlue, with a time of 1 hour 45 minutes, from the Payao-Marco Polo Team. 4. Sports for the Disabled were offered in 3 categories ? petanque with 12 teams; races for the sight-impaired and wheel chair races, each with 20 contestants, with the following winners: - Winner of the Disabled Petanque competition, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was the Chiang Rai B Team. - Winner of the Sight-Impaired race, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Mr. Tassakorn Nakprohm. - Winner for the wheel chair race, receiving the H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn cup was Mr. Pitaya Pratin.
Another activity was continued from last year: the sale of special postcards, for people to write what they found memorable about HRH the Princess Mother. These are to be collected for presentation to H.M. the King in December 2009. Profits from the sale of these cares are to be used for the Hall of Inspiration and other works of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation.
For this occasion, Doi Tung opened to the public the Royal Villa, the Mae Fah Luang Garden, the Mae Fah Luang Arboretum, and the Hall of Inspiration for free admission. This created considerable interest and left many of the visitors with fond memories of the day.
