Ceramics
The ceramics work was the result of the Project using vetiver grass and clay to make degradable flower pots that could be placed directly into the soil. These biodegradable pots were used during the reforestation of Doi Tung. Using kiln-firing techniques resulted in new kinds of pottery, which the Foundation decided to sell as home decorative items, alongside the hand-woven fabric made in the weaving factory. The ceramics factory offers employment to young people with a certain level of education since an understanding of science is fundamental to ceramic work. Creative and artistic young people are also given employment. By using local clay, Doi Tung ceramics are noted for colours unique to the locality. Some of the glazes are developed by the Project using raw materials from other factories, such as ash from macadamia shells. This contributes to the uniqueness of Doi Tung ceramics.
