M.R. Disnadda Diskul, Secretary General of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage and M.L. Dispanadda Diskul, Director of Operations, Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, Doi Tung Development Project, welcomed a group from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) led by Mr. Fumio KIKUCHI, Director-General, Southeast Asia Department II, on a study visit to Doi Tung.

Mr. Kikuchi?s area of responsibility includes Myanmar, where JICA has provided aid in the development of infrastructure to support Myanmar?s economic development. As the Doi Tung Development Project has successfully carried out a sustainable alternative development program in Myanmar in the past, the group visited Doi Tung to learn about the principle of Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Development, a holistic approach to development, consisting of the development of human resources, economy, and environment, which can be adapted for use in Myanmar. They also discussed the possibility of future cooperation between JICA and Doi Tung Development Project.

The group visited Doi Tung from August 30 to September 1, 2009. They observed a child centered education at Kha Yaeng Pattana School, the creation of jobs and occupations at the Cottage Industry Centre, and the reforestation at Pang Mahan.  The JICA group attended a briefing on Doi Tung Development Project before paying a visit to the Hall of Opium, Golden Triangle Park, which is an edutainment centre showing the history of opium and narcotics, in an effort to raise an awareness of the danger of narcotic drugs. The Hall of Opium is another flagship project of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.
