The Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP) has been recently chosen as one of the ten Creative Cities for its creative economy. On May 11th 2011, Mr. Narong Apichai as a representative of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, together with Vice Governor of Chiang Rai and representatives from Office of Commercial Affairs Chiang Rai, received “Creative City Award” from the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce at Sunti Maitree Building, the Government House.

The Doi Tung Development Project was chosen as a Creative City for its creative development model to eradicate poverty and improve the quality of life of the people in the Doi Tung area, based on the community’s local wisdom. It was honoured as a model for Sustainable Alternative Livelihood Development to build balance between the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. In order to be self-financed and sustainable, DTDP has the “DoiTung” brand consisting of four business units: handicrafts, processed food, horticulture, and tourism. DTDP also has “Living University” as a venue for the world over to come and learn our development principles, and further adapt to their own development in other areas.
